Today, August 12, 2026, we’ll witness an extraordinary astronomical event—a partial solar eclipse. To mark the occasion, we’re extending the operating hours of the Chleb gondola lift until 8:30 p.m.

In northern Slovakia, the eclipse will begin at approximately 7:19 p.m., with totality occurring around 8:03 p.m. In the Žilina area, approximately 76% of the sun’s disk will be obscured at that time.

So that you can enjoy this special evening in Vrátna as well, the Chleb gondola lift will make an exception today and will not end its operation at 6:00 p.m., but will continue running until 8:30 p.m.

The last downhill ride on the cable car is at 8:30 p.m.

Important Information

This is not an organized event. The Malá Fatra Visitor Center is only providing special extended operating hours for the gondola lift. Visitors move about the mountain area on their own and are required to follow the visitor regulations of the Malá Fatra National Park.

When observing the eclipse, be sure to protect your eyes. Do not look directly at the sun with the naked eye or through ordinary sunglasses. For direct observation, you must use eyepieces or filters specifically designed for observing the Sun.
