The administration of the Malá Fatra National Park draws attention to the annual spring closure, which lasts from 01 March to 15 June on the following hiking trails:
1. Medziholie – Veľký Rozsutec – Medzirozsutce (red hiking trail)
2. Obšívanka – Small Bed and Breakfasts (blue hiking trail)
3. Vendovka – Malý Kriváň (blue hiking trail)
The reason for the spring closure is primarily to protect the animals that make their home in Mala Fatra. Spring is the most sensitive time of the year for raising and fostering the young of various species of birds and mammals. It is important for these species to have peace and quiet from human presence for at least a few months of the year.
The closed sections of the trails to Veľký Rozsutec and Obšívanka are part of the Rozsutec and Tiesňavy National Nature Reserves, where no economic activity is carried out. The reserves represent islands of wilderness and untouched nature in the attacked area of the national park.
The reason for the closure of the section of the blue trail in Vendovka – Malý Kriváň, which passes through the area above the upper forest border, is the protection of chickadees.
Last but not least, the closures serve to protect and regenerate the soil cover, which is more susceptible to erosion immediately after the winter period.
Hikers have more than 150 km of marked hiking trails of varying difficulty available in the Mala Fatra National Park all year round, so we hope that they will accept and respect this restriction, which is beneficial for the nature of Mala Fatra.
When visiting the area, keep an eye on the Mountain Rescue Service website, which publishes safety warnings for Little Fatra.
Don't be sad, we're just taking a break - from Monday 24th to Friday 28th March. Valid for skiing at Paseky, also for the Chleb cable car.
We look forward to seeing you again on the weekend of 29-30 March.
We hope that the weather will be kind to us and we will enjoy beautiful days in the mountains.
